Our Story
A Story about Marina - The Founder
The Cozy Retreat was born from one woman's devotion to yoga, healing and community - and it continues today as a living tribute to her.
Marina Frei, born in 1959 in Germany, moved to Krabi, Thailand in 2000. Drawn first by a life at sea as a diving instructor. Over time, a deeper calling led her to yoga - and in 2008 she travelled to India to complete her 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training. She returned to Ao Nang and opened what would become this retreat - named after her "Marinayoga" - teaching yoga, meditation and healing arts for over a decade.
Marina built more than a retreat - she built a home. A quiet corner of Ao Nang where guests from all over the worl came to practise, breathe, reconnect and make friends. Her warmth, her curiosity for holistic healing and her open door for anyone seeking growth shaped everything this place stands for.
In June 2026, Marina passed away unexpectedly. It was a loss felt deeply by everyone who knew her. She will be missed dearly.
We continue her Legacy in her memory. Her spirit - of care, presence, smile and genuine connection - remains at the heart of everything we do here
